The Adršpach-Teplice rock town (Adršpašsko-teplické skalní město) is one of the largest continuous rock massifs in Central Europe. This unique labyrinth of sandstone rock of incredible shapes and with original names is also the most frequently visited place in Kladské pomezí.
The Adršpach rocks are characterised by the densely spaced sandstone towers, ravines, narrow walkways, rock walls, etc. The various formations, sculpted in the sandstone by the forces of nature, were given romantic names such as Milenci (Lovers), Džbán (Jug), Starosta a Starostová (Mayor and his wife), Homole cukru (Sugar loaf), etc. A small reservoir named Adršpašské jezírko was built on the Metuje River flowing through the upper part of Vlčí gorge. Passengers can take a row boat ride across the reservoir and admire Velký vodopád (Great waterfall). The Adršpach rock castle remains located on the top of Starozámecký peak offer a view of the major part of the Adršpach rocks.
The first mention of tourism in the area dates back to the 18th century when visitors would come to admire the rock town and romantic hideaways. Today, there are more than 5 kilometres of well-maintained walkways meandering through the most popular rock formations. The first mention of local climbing comes from the 20th century, however, it was not until the second half of last century before climbing in the Adršpach-Teplice rocks reached its greatest popularity. Today, Adršpach is a popular climbing area for both the experienced and beginners.
